Would you like to live with friends? Housemates or flatmates?

Would you like to live in your own apartment with drop-in supports, and a friendly neighbour as back up supports?

Then an Individualised Living Option may be for you.

What Are Individualised Living Options (ILO)?

Individualised Living Options (ILO) is a package of NDIS funding tailored around your specific needs, that allows you to be supported to live in the home of your choice. ILO funding helps you to get the support you need, in a way that is individualised and innovative. It’s important to note that an ILO is not the physical ‘bricks and mortar’ home, but rather the home-based supports (paid and unpaid) that you need.

This toolkit is a practical resource for people with disability, their families and supporters who are seeking to explore an Individualised Living Option (ILO) as an alternative to traditional in-home support models such as ‘group homes’. This guide will help step you through the process of deciding if an ILO is right for you, through to applying for ILO funding.

First Steps

Before you start down the path of exploring an ILO, you need to have a vision for Home and what that looks like for you.

What is an NDIS ILO?

ILOs are a new concept for many people and are an alternative to the traditional group home model of support.

ILO is a package of NDIS funding that allows you to live in the home of your choice with supports that best fit your needs.

An ILO is created around you, rather than you having to fit into a living arrangement established by others or existing service or having to live with other people you have not chosen to live with. Because ILO funding is very flexible, you can change your supports regularly as your needs change.

Applying for NDIS ILO funding

The process for applying for NDIS-funded ILO support involves many steps. We hope to simplify this to make ILOs more accessible for people who want more creative options of support in their own home.
